Learn "Clinch Mountain Backstep" on Bluegrass Fiddle:

Location: R347

Instructor: CARLSON[F] ARKIN[B,G]

Style: Bluegrass Oldtime

This instrumental was composed and popularized by banjo player Ralph Stanley, an icon among the first generation bluegrass musicians. The B part has an extra half measure for the 1 chord—just before the 5 chord. This tune is famous for this little “backstep,” and or little “hook” for this tune. Taught by Ellen with backup on guitar and bluegrass banjo (not simultaneously!) by Steve Arkin, who played banjo briefly with Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys.
