Ellery Klein is a fiddle and violin teacher in the Boston area. After decades of performing, Ellery began to concentrate on teaching full-time in 2013. She now works with about 25 youth and adults at her home studio in Medford, and at Powers Music School in Belmont. She founded and directs Powers' summer strings program, "Fiddling on the Hill." For four years, she also taught Irish fiddle at the Boston branch of the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann's Saturday school.
Ellery currently performs with Portland-based flute player Nicole Rabata and guitarist Bethany Waickman in the Irish trio Fódhla. From 2003-2007, she fiddled around the USA over 235 days a year with the acclaimed Irish band Gaelic Storm. She has also performed with Long Time Courting, Vermont bagpipe rock band Whisky Before Breakfast, jighead, singer Cathie Ryan, Scottish pianist James Ross and banjo player Olive Brennan. With fellow Gaelic Storm drummer Ryan Lacey, she has produced three recordings for competitive Irish dancers.
In 2001, Ellery received her M.A. in Traditional Irish Music at University of Limerick’s Irish World Music Centre, and is a proud alumna of Cincinnati, Ohio’s magnet high school School for Creative and Performing Arts. When not performing or teaching, she can be found shuttling her two budding clarinet, fiddle, piano-and-basketball-playing children around Medford and beyond.
